The Shelter Stone located at J325274 is one of the best known wild camping spots in the Mournes. It lies on a steep hill facing the head of Ben Crom reservoir and is accessible by following a track from Hares Gap or by walking up from the Silent Valley Reservoir complex. It is a set of stone slabs jutting out from the earth which can be clambered under for shelter.
