The wall is 22 miles long, 1.5m high and 0.8m thick and is constructed entirely of granite from quarries around the Mourne Mountains using classic dry stone wall techniques. It encloses 9,000 acres of mountainous terrain and is designed to keep farm animals away from the reservoirs and rivers that flow into them.<\/p>\n<p>It crosses 15 mountains. Starting at Hares Gap and working anti-clockwise they are:<br \/>\nSlieve Bearnagh (727 m)<br \/>\nSlieve Meelmore (684 m)<br \/>\nSlieve Meelbeg (708 m)<br \/>\nSlieve Loughshannagh (619 m)<br \/>\nCarn Mountain (587 m)<br \/>\nSlieve Muck (674 m)<br \/>\nSlievenaglogh (445 m)<br \/>\nMoolieve (332 m)<br \/>\nWee Binnian (460 m)<br \/>\nSlieve Binnian (747 m)<br \/>\nRocky Mountain (525 m)<br \/>\nSlieve Donard (850 m)<br \/>\nSlieve Commedagh (765 m)<br \/>\nSlieve Corragh (691 m)<br \/>\nSlievenaglogh (586 m)<\/p>\n<p>The wall passes the peak of each mountain except Rocky where it skirts the summit.
